I obtained the benchmark point for reconstruction. It was clearly
marked on telephone pole.

So, should the architect that does the renovation/new plans put the
benchmark point somewhere on the plans? Where should the
benchmark be so all involved in the rebuild will know and not over
look this important part of the rebuild process.

WHat if it is overlooked? This is a costly mistake i would think?

your builder will keep it above the bfe. Once he knows the elevation he will build to that then a Surveying service will take a reading to make sure it was met, then the framing can begin.

Thanks for your reply. The architect knew about the benchmark
point because I sent all of this information to him. He did not put
on the plans at all and says he didn't know anything about it.

What builder, architect, homeowner, etc. does not know about the
benchmark? Benchmark points are well know facts.

So, to claim , "didn't know about it", the person or persons have to
be living on another planet!

I believe this is "gross errors and omissions" on his part! Anyone rebuilding, applying for homeowners insurance, flood insurance, any kind of
construction is well aware of the benchmark points.
