We had no problem getting renter's insurance at all.
On the subject of homeowner's, I was told by my Allstate agent to hang on to it, and not drop down to liability only, as Allstate may not write new policies in the future.

regarding homeowners - are you repairing or demolishing and rebuilding?

Our one-story house had 10 feet of water in it, the two weeks ago, it was hit by the tornado. Our only option is to demolish. We have been informed by our insurance company that as soon as we demolish, we will be dropped and they are not writing any new insurance for areas below I-12. We were also told that any insurance we would be able to get would be substantially more expensive.

I want to move back to Lakeview, but will we be able to get insurance and if so, will we be able to afford it? Is there any action being taken to deal with this insurance problem?

Just an update. We just received a quote of $10,000 per year for insurance. We were paying around $1,500. How will anybody be able to afford moving back?

was your home below the 1984 BFE?
What insurance company did you have and which one did you get a quote on?

I didn't think they could drop anyone as long as you keep making payments?

I received over 10 feet of water in my one-story Lakeview home. I was able to reduce my household insurance with State Farm down to the minimum, $5,000, and still keep my liability insurance intact.
