Does anybody know if we're allowed in Lakeview to have one of those small Katrina cottages (like the one in Chalmette) built on a lot? I understand that these structures are easily added on to as time and money allow. So, I guess the idea is that you start off with one of these on your lot (instead of a trailer), and then "grow" the cottage by adding more modules. Any info. on this would be greatly appreciated.

You need to find out if there is a minimum size for houses in your specifice zoning. Or you could construct the little house as a garage at the property rear.

Coincidently, I picked up at the home re-building show this past weekend (at the Convention Center) some information about a company called SunCoast Construction & Development, LLC.

They are a licensed Mississippi Residential Builder and are now building in the Greater New Orleans area. According to their website, they built 3 of the Katrina Cottages that are on (or will be on) display at the different Lowe's that will start selling Katrina Cottage "kits" starting sometime next month. (They also built Katrina cottages in Mississippi, along the coast).

I believe there will be about 1/2 dozen plans to choose from (with the largest being about 1200 square feet), and this company says it can build either a stick-version or panelized version of the cottages.

Their website looks to be fairly new and some parts of it are still "under construction" (please excuse the pun). If anybody wants to check them out, their website is

Are you guys familiar with the concept of Structural Insulated Panels or SIPS? And have you heard of a company called Weatherguard Enterprises?
