Any thoughts on how we can get people to cut their grass and maintain thier property. Among many reasons, the rat population is exploding and I am concerned about the health risks

I am a contractor in Nashville making plans to move to Lakeview to help rebuild and want to help in any way I can. I would love to bring my teenage son down with me for the summer and have him cut the yards, but don't know how to go about it.

I assume the problem is the yards of those that have not or will not return, so don't care about how their yard looks. Is that the case or do the homeowners just not have a way to contact someone to do it?

If anyone has a way to contact some of the homeowners that do want to keep up their property, we can cut their yard for a fair price (teenage slave prices! haha) and e-mail them pictures so they know it was done.

Please let me know if this would help at all.

Shawn,
Thanks for your response. What we need is for a grass cutting company to set up shop in Lakeview. It would do us a great service, a location could be found, and there is alot of money to be made. If anyone else is interested let's discuss this option.

Please forgive me if I offended you (or anyone else) if my reply was seen as not being serious or belittling the situation.

The out of control weeds are certainly a problem, I just don't know how to go about resolving it from here. If there are enough people in Lakeview that are willing to pay for the service, I will be more than happy to set up a landscaping company as a division of our construction company.

If you can give me an idea of how many people would sign up and what you feel is a fair fee for the initial work, I can be down there next week.

Feel free to e-mail me directly if more convenient.

Maintainlakeview.com

Check out their site. The problem is with getting your neighbors to pay for the service. As we know, some of these folks have turned into deadbeats.

I am so fed up with the people who are not taking care of their properties. There is already a law on the books which states that a property owner must cut grass, remove debris, and exterminate rats and mosquito's. This law needs to be enforced NOW! Maybe when these deadbeats receive a ticket, they will take action. I have already contacted the council members, the mayor's office and the environmental health dept. Unfortunately, they are all dragging their feet citing the Aug 29 date. This date is supposed to be the drop dead date....not the starting date. Instead of trying to invent guidelines to go with the Aug date, how about enforcing the law which is already in place!!!! To much common sense, I guess!

We need to ban together and tell city hall that we are not going to put up with it anymore! We have power in numbers. We are here...working to bring back our neighborhood and we do not and will not share it with the rats!!! Everyone needs to call Shelley Midura, Oliver Thomas, Arnie Fielkow and our non-existent Mayor. The switchboard number is 658-4000.

I think that if we could have a master list of the current property owners and a way to contact them, it could help with the situation. I drove through Lakeview for a solid month after my home was demolished hoping to see a sign soliciting yard service, but only demolition companys, gutting and mold services. If someone is willing to atleast post some signs for the service, I think thier would be many property owners that would contact them. The only person I found cost me way too much and hasnt shown up again (too busy). I would pay and schedule it regulary. I would cut it myself, if 1. I owned a truck 2. a lawnmower 3. had a place to keep both (im in an apt right now) I'm sure there are many people with my same troubles.

it is illegal and very ugly to post signs on public property, these signs are removed every week.

Did you contact the guys at maintain lakeview?

Besides Maintain Lakeview does anyone know of reliable and consistent Grass Cutters? I'd like to get the service done and then maintained monthly without paying unreasonable amounts of money.

Is there any activity taking place in contacting land owners who are not taking care of their properties?

There are three houses in the 6900 block of Canal Blvd., on the eastern side by the corner of Canal and Mouton. The grass is not being cut and the houses are in shambles. Something needs to be done.
