Does anyone know what insurance companies are writing new policies for homes in Lakeview?

call your agent, or if you don't have insurance call an agent outside of the metro new orleans area like Livingston Parish or something like that. I think the local ones have alot going on and it is easy for them to just say we arn't writing anymore policys.

Let us know if you have any luck.

Liberty Mutual - existing policy holders only - quoted me a price about 220% higher than pre-K
State Farm - no new policies
Chubb - no new policies too close to lake (whatever that means)
Triple A - only writing policies in Jefferson
Republic - no new policies on houses that flooded
Farm Bureau - no new policies and no wind/hail coverage on existing policies
Amica - no new policies
Firemans Fund - required insurance over double my houses value, quote very high
Allstate - no new policies in LA

I have tried everything I can think of. These are my results. If anyone has any different experiences, please post them.

Existing structure - increased by double.
Newbuild - NO coverage.

We are examining a loophole: By saving one wall of the home, you are "rebuilding" the existing structure, not starting anew, and therefore can keep the existing policy (double is better than none!).

we paid up front for a year of homeowners and flood from Allstate and Statefarm.

The homes have been torn down and will rebuild one home at the current location.

Our loan officer at the SBA stated that we can use the SBA loan to purchace another rental property then I plan to just move my coverage to that home.

Right now we have flood and homowners coverage on two empy lots. I guess if it floods again I can say it floated away.

Okay, here is the scoop. We lived on Vicksburg Street (6115) and have been informed by State Farm today we are not eligible to receive ICC money. We meet the CURRENT Base Flood Elevation levels. The NEW maps, we would be eligible. We have signed a contract to demolish our substantially damaged home, gotten the letter from the city, gotten a new elevation survey and gotten the demo permit. We were waiting just to make sure ICC would cover the demo cost and cost to elevate. Glad we did. Has anyone else run into this? I guess we now have to wait unti the new maps are approved by local officals (says State Farm) in order to get the $30,000. If we moved forward on our own, they say the will not reimburseus the money after the fact. We would have been in serious trouble had we spent more of our little insurance money on demo to then fin out ICC/State Farm will not pay us back.

Glad you caught it.

Make sure the survey company used the absoulute lowest part of your home. Sometimes they are in a hury and have alot of homes to do so they will just use the front of the house.

We had our home rasied when we bought it to the current BFE of -2.5. When we had the survey done again about a month ago it sunk 4 inches.

I don't know if it was because we landscaped the yard last summer and had a lot of sand put in to create a grade from the back to the front or because we haven't had rain in a very long time.

One more thing to consider is the BFE for the Lakeview area didn't change. So a new map would mean that the NFIP doesn't accept the current map which came back the same as the 1984 maps, and then they would have to start all over again.

Good Luck.

FYI to have a 2,100 sq foot raised home demo it cost us $4,500 and to have a 1,000 sq ft home home demo it was $4,000. Please call around and get prices. Some of our quotes came back in the $10,000 and one was close to $20,000. Before the hurricane the cost would have been about $2,500 - $3,000.
