Hey guys, I am a life long resident of New Orleans and I wanted to make sure everyone knows that there is a solution out there that can solve the two biggest issues facing people who are rebuilding homes after the storm. Those problems are getting Insurance and making sure the new home can stand up to the next storm. I know this because I lost my home on Bellaire, my brother lost his home on Pontchartrain and my parents lost their home on Jay St.
The solution is to rebuild your home with an Insulated Concrete Forms (or ICF for short) frame. It is a frame built steel reinforced concrete. You can go to the web site for more details (www.ICFconcepts.com), but the reasons we have made this choice are many:
#1 It has proven in previous hurricanes that it can stand up to debris and wind traveling over 200 MPH.
#2 It is termite proof.
#3 It insulates sound better.
#4 Improved air quality
#5 Reduced Insurance costs. Not only is it more likely you will get Insurance, but it will be cheaper because the risk to the Insurance company is almost non-existent.
#6 Superior insulation, smaller energy bills
#7 Tax credits for building “Green”
The bottom line is that to rebuild with wood sticks and just hope history does not repeat itself does not make any sense to me. Their phone number is 504-416-4645. |

Can you provide any information regarding cost for this building type.
I have read that it is comp. to building w/ 2x6 lumber vs 2x4 studs.
What can you expect per square foot bldg cost if a tradionally framed house is running at 120/sq ft? _________________ Aaron Adolph |

What does this material look like as a finished structure? Especially raised, up on piers? Or is that something that is desirable to do? And what about the interior walls and floors? Would they be water-proof as well? I've been doing a tremendous amount of research on all the alternatives out there to "stick-built" houses, and I did run across ICFs. They sound like a good alternative. |

With the new codes going into effect pricing between ICF andd wood is very similar. Long term cost comparison between ICF and wood, ICF will be much cheaper because of utility savings R-48 and insurance savings.
An ICF home looks just like any other home and can be put on piers or raised.
Please call me at 504-915-7745. Thanks |

Are you guys familiar with Structural Insulated Panels or SIPs? I'm also familiar with the concrete product and know people who do that as well. |
