I was told yesterday by my Allstate agent that, upon rebuilding my house, I will have a wind and hail exclusion in my policy. So now, in addition to my homeowners policy, which is now basically just a fire policy, I will have to carry a flood policy and an additional wind and hail policy as well. So now we're looking at somewhere around $750-$1000 per month in insurance, $1,200 per month in 2 kids' education and a ballpark $300 per month (if we're lucky) to entergy. That's about $2300 per month without a mortgage, car note or anything else. It's not looking good for the hometown. If someone has different numbers, or something to make me feel better about my future in New Orleans, I'd love to see it.

State law prohibits companies from canceling policies that have been in place for three years unless there is a material change in risk or if retaining the policies would impair the solvency of the company.

I hope it doesn't happen, if it does I bet you will see a lot of hurricaines causing fires.

They never said they would cancel the policy. I was just told there would be a major revision to my policy upon renewal. I read in the paper that Farmer's was excluding wind & hail, now Allstate has told me the same thing.
And yes, I agree, you would never have guessed a hurricane could cause so many home fires.
